First Aid INSTRUCTOR Course (Train-The-Trainer) Course 2020

By the end of the course, learners will be able to instruct competently as a First Aid Instructor, in compliance with industry standards.

1. Appreciate the basic structure of ISO 29990:2010

2. List the code of conduct of assessors

3. List the steps of instructions for the conduct of assessments

4. Perform Assessment Records

5. Explain the principles of adult learning

6. List the roles & responsibilities of facilitators

7. Perform triangular and roller bandaging based on SRCA standards

8. List the learning outcomes and key learning points of each subject

9. Present a first aid topic with a demonstration component

Module 1: Basic structure of ISO 29990:2010 for Learning Service Providers (LSPs)

Module 2: List the code of conduct of assessors

Module 3: List the steps of instructions for the conduct of assessments

Module 4: Perform Assessment Records

Module 5: Principles of adult learning

Module 6: Roles and responsibilities of facilitators

Module 7: Bandaging methods in accordance to Singapore Red Cross Academy standards

Module 8: Facilitation of theory and practical sessions for First Aid courses

Lecture - 1 Facilitator : 12 Learners

Practical - 1 Facilitator : 6 Learners (up to 2 Facilitators per class)

To teach Standard First Aid Courses:

P1. Valid (not expired) Occupational First Aid or Standard First Aid or Child First Aid Provider Certification (NFAC-accredited).

P2. Valid (not expired) BCLS Instructor and CPR+AED Instructor or BCLS+AED Instructor Certification (NRC-accredited).

P3. Must be physically fit and able to render help to another individual during an emergency.

P4. Medically fit with no pre-existing medical conditions such as knee, spinal or joints injury. Learners with medical problems, such as bronchial asthma, any upper respiratory tract infection, orthopedic problems (e.g. slipped disc), are encouraged to consult their own doctors before attending the course. In case of doubt, please consult your doctor first and produce a Letter/Memo to indicate if fit for training.

P5. Pregnant ladies are discouraged from undertaking the CPR practice due to safety reasons. In case of doubt, please consult your doctor first and produce a Letter/Memo to indicate if fit for training. You are advised to defer taking the course to at least 6 weeks after delivery.

To teach Occupational First Aid Courses (above pre-requisites +++):

P6. Must have at least 5 years of relevant work experience in the training of healthcare or life support industry (Practising Nurses & Paramedics are welcomed. https://elis.moh.gov.sg/elis/info.do?task=download&file=EmergencyAmbulanceStandards.pdf).

P7. As regulated by Workplace Safety and Health Council, Ministry Of Manpower, Facilitators & Assessor must attained at least secondary two education or level 5 of ESS Workplace Literacy and Numeracy.

P8. Full ACTA (6 CUs) certification for mandatory full-time trainer and associate trainers.

P9. Attended the Code of Ethics workshop approved by MOM.

A1. Learners would need to fulfil 100% course attendance in order to be eligible for the assessments.

A2. Upon completion of classroom training, learners are required to complete attachments at Singapore Red Cross Academy. Singapore Red Cross Academy will provide all sessions (T1/T2/E1/E2) for ease of convenience.

A3. Assessment Outline:

(i) Written Assessment (During Course) (Up to 2 attempts to pass)

- Multiple Choice Questions (80% to pass)

(ii) Practical Assessment (During Course) (Up to 2 attempts to pass)

- Small Group Demonstration (minimally "Fair" to pass)

(iii) Practical Assessment (Post-Course)

Observation: OFAC Observation (Based on LSP's policies)

T1: OFAC Trainee-Instructor Conducting of OFAC Training Assessment 1 (minimally "Good" to pass) - Day 1 & Day 2

T2: OFAC Trainee-Instructor Conducting of OFAC Training Assessment 2 (minimally "Good" to pass) - Day 1 & Day 2

E1: OFAC Trainee-Instructor Conducting of OFAC Examination Assessment 1 (minimally "Good" to pass) - Day 3 (cannot be the assessor if Day 1 & Day 2 was conducted by trainee-instructor as trainer cannot be assessor).

E2: OFAC Trainee-Instructor Conducting of OFAC Examination Assessment 2 (minimally "Good" to pass) - Day 3 (cannot be the assessor if Day 1 & Day 2 was conducted by trainee-instructor as trainer cannot be assessor).

T1/E1: Observations with guided training to competently deliver first aid topics to learners preferably with little or no assistance from the designated assessor. Trainee-Instructors who are not comfortable to go for their T2/E2 can request for additional practice sessions with SRCA. (No more than 3 sessions).

T2/E2: Able to conduct training and assessment of first aid topics without assistance from the designated assessor. Trainee-Instructors have to complete all T1/T2/E1/E2 within 6 months after the end of the Instructor Course.

C1. Recognised by the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) & Singapore Resuscitation and First Aid Council (SRFAC).

C2. This course is accredited by Ministry of Manpower CPD/264/A1B/019 with 32 SDU Points Awarded.

C3. Learners would need to fulfill 100% course attendance and by attaining Competent in order to be eligible for the issue of an A4 certificate stating Statement of Attainment in First Aid Instructor Course (Train-The-Trainer and Methods of Instruction).

C4. The Instructor Certificate is renewable once the Instructor has assumed the role as a First Aid Instructor at least twice per year in any approved LSP/TC/ATP/ATO.
