Course Description

Community-Based Psychosocial Support

By the end of the course, learners will have the relevant knowledge and insights into aspects of the psychosocial (PS) impact of disasters and acquaints them with psychosocial support (PSS) activities and programming.

1. Increase awareness of psychological reactions during disasters and/or social disruption

2. Facilitate psychosocial support

3. Promote the restoration of community networks and coping mechanisms

4. Enable national societies to understand and better respond to the psychosocial needs of vulnerable groups

5. Promote care for the carers; emotional assistance for staff and volunteers

1 Facilitator : 8 Learners (up to 2 Facilitators per class)

P1. Learners must have successfully attended and been awarded a certificate of completion in the following:

- Psychological First Aid (since 2016) by Singapore Red Cross Academy

P2. We highly recommend individuals to have attained at least secondary two education or level 5 of ESS Workplace Literacy and Numeracy.

P3. Prior reading completed of Training Manual of the following:

- Psychological First Aid (since 2016) by Singapore Red Cross Academy

P3. Are prepared to be trained and be an active learner in the course.

A1. There are no assessments for this course.

A2. This is a highly-participatory course, which involves a series of role plays, demonstrations and group activities. Learners are encouraged to participate in all the classroom activities in order to fully maximise the learning opportunities available.

C1. This course is endorsed by the Danish Red Cross with support from the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) Reference Centre for Psychosocial Support.

C2. Learners would need to fulfil 100% course attendance in order to be eligible for the issue of an A4 certificate stating Certificate of Participation.
